Today the Provada was the backdrop to the signing of a letter of intent by Lithos and PingProperties with Stedelink housing association. The letter of intent is for the sale of the new residential tower block development on Duitslandlaan in Zoetermeer city centre. Stedelink will develop the tower block by means of separate purchase and construction agreements. The building marks an important step in the transformation of the heart of Zoetermeer into a lively and future-proof city centre.
The tower block, designed by Klunder Architects, will be around 70 metres high with a gross floor area of around 20,000 m². The building will soon be adding 242 rented homes in the city centre, 75% of which are earmarked for social tenancies and 25% for mid-priced rentals. This development will not only contribute to alleviating the housing shortage, but also enhance the city centre’s attractiveness and quality of life.
The Municipality of Zoetermeer is pleased to be involved in the development of the tower block at this former site of the V&D department store. Councillor Jan Iedema (urban development and inner city) is proud of the development: ‘It ties in perfectly with our Inner City Vision 2040 (Visie Binnenstad 2040). In the period up to 2040 we will be adding some 2,000 apartments to our city centre. Spread across all areas of the city, we want to offer a great mix of residential property, enterprise, shopping and leisure. The tower block is included in what we refer to as subarea 3 and is a real boost for our city centre. It’s our aim to change the heart of Zoetermeer from an inward-looking environment into the open city centre we envisage.’ The Municipality of Zoetermeer is striving to create a high-quality downtown district, with attractive buildings and a wide range of social and cultural amenities. But this also means creating a lively streetscape and a safe and pleasant public space with plenty of greenery. Zoetermeer aims to have added around 2,000 apartments to its city centre by 2040. The 242 rented apartments in the new tower block will make an excellent contribution to this target.
Marion Timmermans, director at Stedelink:
‘Stedelink is proud of this new development that will add high-quality, sustainable and affordable housing to the district. The housing shortage is severe, and Zoetermeer is no exception. By building this tower block we are adding 242 rented apartments at a fantastic residential location and we can provide more people with an affordable home in Zoetermeer. PingProperties and Lithos Projecten are two decisive partners with whom we are working together with confidence to complete this project.’
Bram Harding, (Re)development Manager at PingProperties:
‘With the opening of Dirk at the start of this year we took an important step in the redevelopment of the old shopping centre into a modern complex serving the daily needs of the shopping public. It is fantastic that by developing this tower block we are now able to make a powerful contribution to a lively city centre, at the same time helping to tackle the housing shortage in the Netherlands. This project underlines our ambition to create value for the city, its residents and the future.’
Peter Krol, (Re)development Manager at Lithos Projecten:
‘The new residential tower block on Duitslandlaan will be a great place to live. What’s more, the proximity of amenities, such as shops and public transport, will add to the convenience and quality of life for the residents, while the attractive public space around the building will create a pleasant spot for visitors and local residents alike.’
